Developments in technology have rendered this impossible. In "Tying it all together," learners are expected to develop the art of using academic language and combining it with colloquial language as a way of attracting the audience. As a result, they end up stating ideas without an effort to criticize or join the ideas to give a conclusion. Additionally, the use of technology poses performance of tasks as an easy thing making them view writing as something that they do not need to practice. Due to their shorthand writing, they end up in shorthand language and which is evident in their writing. They of people end up in an environment where they cannot construct correct sentences. As such, they do not develop writing skills. When they communicate, they write text messages in shorthand and at other times, they just need to record their voice and send it to the other person. Technological innovations such as the use of smartphones have reduced students nurturing of skills. The art of academic writing is developed over time where students are taught how to use connecting words and the re-structuring of points. In the first phase "They say," the student is expected to borrow from a template as a way to guide their writing, learn the art of summarizing other people's work and be in a position to apply quotes in their works. The student's intellectualism determines how they handle each of the phases.
